In honor of World Mental Health Day, I thought I would share 5 things I do to boost my mood when I feel a little down and out.
Recently, I found myself feeling emotional and not really understanding why straight off the bat.
I took some time to analyze why I was feeling that way and came to the understanding that my feelings were absolutely valid.
Once I sat with my feelings and allowed myself to release through a little cry, I began to do the following things. I woke up the next day feeling miles better. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself the time to recover.
5 Simple Ways To Boost Your Mood.
1. Watch one of your favorite TV Shows.
I love watching The Office personally.
Watching something funny or light will always be an instant mood booster.
Try to steer away from doom and gloom.
2. Go out for a nature walk or drive.
When I'm feeling down, I don't have the energy to do too much so I either go for a short nature walk or for a drive listening to my favorite songs.
3. Order yourself your favorite dinner or dessert
I'm a foodie. Food truly makes me happy! Usually the reason I get a little down every now and then is when I'm feeling homesick. I will either cook or order something that reminds me of home to connect me back to my family.
4. Give someone a hug
I'll be honest, I've never been one for hugs but when I truly need a hug, it's one of the best things and an instant mood booster.
5. Get a good night's sleep.
If you struggle with sleep, I really recommend the following products linked in a previous blog post https://www.alishaunleeshd.com/post/sleep-glorious-sleep
We should be getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night on average. Sleep is so important!
In regards to World Mental Health Day, one of the biggest pieces of advice that I can give from my own experiences.. Talk.
To a trusted friend, family member or therapist.
Talk about what's going on in your mind.
Sending love and light,
Alisha
